In 2017, Mabinogi Productions were engaged to create a 5 – 7 min promotional video to promote the Rhondda Tunnel Society’s efforts to recruit new members as well as influence decision makers to back the ambitious goal of re-opening the historic Rhondda Tunnel for tourism and redevelopment.

Our method of engagement involved in-depth pre-production meetings with all the stakeholders to identify the film’s primary goals as well as target audience of the video.

With every project the MABINOGI TEAM start with these key questions:

• Who is this video for? Who is the audience?
• What do you want them to feel / understand?
• What do you want them to do / call to action?

Once these were agreed we moved onto the structure of the film to maximise the visual, educational and emotional impact.

These key narrative elements were:

• Interviews with key members of the RTS in locations primary to the project. (Often interviews are done without thought to setting and background thereby lessening their viewer engagement.)
• A re-enactment of a ‘Family’ on a day out at the proposed side.
• Testimonials from National and Local Politicians backing the project and urging decision makers.
• Historical Background on the tunnel and the workers who built it
• Amazing Cinematography tying it all together – Stunning aerials shots, gorgeous b-roll and engaging motion graphics

Shooting 5 days spread over the course of 3 months, the Mabinogi crew completed the 6 min film on time and on budget.

The result?   A month after its release the RTS was awarded £90,000 to reopen the tunnel and proceed to the crucial Stage 2 of their project.

CONCLUSION
